On April 6th , Parker Otto of the Blue Ridge FFA Chapter competed in the District 4 Public Speaking Contest. His area was Prepared Public Speaking. He wrote and delivered a 6-minute speech on GMO’s. Otto placed 4th in the competition.

The Blue Ridge FFA chapter from Farmer City had six members compete at the Section 16 Proficiency Awards in February of 2016 at Maroa-Forsyth High School. Students who complete a Supervised Agriculture Experience program (SAE) can compete at Proficiency Awards. Listed below are the results from the competition.
Shaila Quinn competed in Ag Communications Vanessa Mattingly- Ag Education Chase Zimmerman in Ag Mechanics Chase won Specialty Crop Production at Section. Jessica Collins competed in Ag Sales Jessica Collins competed in Food Service Parker Otto competed in Vegetable Production Sydney Paris competed in Equine Science Placement Zimmerman represented Blue Ridge FFA at the District 4 Proficiency Awards on March9 th , 2016 at Sullivan High School. This member interviewed against other members from District 4 in Specialty Crop Production. On April 18, 2016, the new FFA Officer Team was installed. Secretary, Grace Holtz, taking place of Sydney Paris as Treasurer, Polly Reynolds, taking place Parker Otto for Reporter, Nick Becker is the new Blue Ridge FFA Sentinel, and Megan Schumacher as Historian. Blue Ridge Places 5th Place Section 16 Poultry Contest
Blue Ridge FFA members: Polly Reynolds, Megan Schumacher, Clay Stephens,Garrett Wendell, Ellie Paulsrud, Alicen Herald, Nick Becker, and Josie Dodge competed at the Section 16 Poultry Contest. The team placed 5 th , with Megan Schumacher who placed 4 th individually. Activities included completing a written test, judging interior and exterior eggs, placing market dressed birds and further processed items, identifying parts of a chicken. The team will compete at the State Poultry Contest in April. On January 27th , 5 members of The Blue Ridge FFA Chapter competed in various areas of public speaking. In this contest there were three areas to compete in. Creed Speaking where freshmen Cassidy Burris and Megan Schumacher recited the FFA Creed, which is celebrating its 85 th anniversary, from memory, Prepared Speaking where sophomore Parker Otto wrote a speech, memorized it, and spoke it to judges, and Extemporaneous Speaking where juniors Vanessa Mattingly and Kylie Moubry had
a certain amount of time to write a speech at the contest on a particular topic and read it to judges. Placing in 2 nd place was Parker Otto who will be moving on to district in March. The Blue Ridge FFA extends much gratitude to teachers from the Blue Ridge Junior High and High School who came and acted as judges at one of our most important events of the year. |
